Early Stage of Politics
Due to services Harry provided during the war, he managed to make a good amount of friends and acquaintances that eventually would provide him political power base in Kansas City area. Thomas J. Pendergast the democratic boss of Kansas City asked Truman to run for a judgeship on the County Court on the eastern district of Jackson County. Thomas J. Pendergast though that Truman's honestly and hard-work would attract the independent voters not just his past veteran friends. He believed that Truman's followers would support him at the polls.
In 1922 he was elected to be one of the judges for the Jackson County Court. He also won the election as the presenting judge in 1926. He then again won the re-election in 1930.
Then in 1934 he was elected into United States Senate. He had significant roles in the passage into law of the Civil Aeronautics Act of 1938 and the Transportation Act of 1940. After being reelected in 1940 he gained national prominence as chairman of the Senate special committee to investigate the National Defense Program.
In 1944 he was nominated to run for the Vice President position. In 1945 he took an oath and became the Vice President. Shortly after President Roosevelt's death, 82 days later Truman became the 33rd President of the United States of America.
